First Fixture

On Monday 26th October, POWIIS took part in its first sporting fixture, a 7-a-side football tournament for under 15 boys, held at Uplands School. The very excited boys left school looking smart in their green shorts, green shirts and white socks. After an unusually quiet trip, the boys walked through to the Uplands pitch and began warming up.

The format required POWIIS to play two 15 minute games, rest for 15 minutes, then play two more. The heavy rain threatened to postpone the whole tournament but the storm held off just long enough for all games to be played. The first game for POWIIS was against Tenby where we lost 1-0. We managed to win the second game 1-0 against Dalat B. Game 3, against Dalat A, ended in a 1-1 draw and the final game, against Uplands, ended in us losing 6-0. A mixed bag of results, but a very good showing for a team only three weeks old.

The results, according to points, meant that we were tied for last place but, according to goal differences, we ended up last overall. This clearly did not bother the boys who were in very high spirits after the matches. POWIIS' "man of the tournament" goes to Aiman Ariff (Year 8) for his enthusiasm and skill on the pitch and the exemplary manner in which he conducted himself throughout.
