End of Term Concert

The end of term concert was particularly festive as the audience was serenaded by a slew of Christmas songs. The talented students and staff brought the audience to their feet as their performances truly embodied the Christmas spirit in every way possible. Certainly not one we will be forgetting about soon! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Carolling Around the Christmas Tree

POWIIS was treated to the sound of carols in the air as the students, led by the Year 7s, sang several Christmas favourites around the tree. Joined by several enthusiastic members of staff, it was increasingly evident that Christmas has arrived early in POWIIS this year!

Dragon Boating

Five of our teachers competed in the famous Penang International Dragon Boat Festival last weekend. They have been training hard since early September of this year and were excited about competing against other Penang teams, as well as teams from Singapore, Thailand and even China! Unfortunately, they did not bring back any trophies. However, the team enjoyed themselves immensely and bravely put up a good ‘fight’. Onwards to the next competition in July!

Year 10 Junior Sports Leaders

This morning our year 10 Junior Sports Leaders helped to run and referee the SCIPS interhouse tournament at Penang Sports Club. They did a fantastic job and did POWIIS proud! Thank you to all of the students involved.

Live Performance by Robbie & Mike

Robbie Balcarek (yr 12) was at Unimap FM last weekend to record two covers, ‘Lay me down’ by Sam Smith and ‘Into you’ by Ariana Grande. Later he performed at Blackwood Restaurant before going on next day to Perlis FM! He released his own song ‘I Promise’ and covered ‘Say you won’t let go’ by James Arthur. He was accompanied by Mike Lim (yr12) on guitar and Adriana Jamalullail (yr11), while sister Lillian (yr10) and Head Boy Ivan Chong went along to support. What a weekend!

Staff vs Student Cricket

The teachers played the students at ‘POWIIS street cricket’ on the middle pitch, a fun version of cricket accessible to all abilities, ages and nationalities (Ms Bennett – USA! USA! USA!). No one managed to reach the MPH roof (100 and out!) but during Mr Stokes’ cricket activity the following week, Zhen Loong reached the MPH balcony (50 and out!).

Typically, and totally in line with all forms of cricket in the UK, no sooner had the match started then it began to rain. No bother, the cricket faithful persevered to enjoy a great match. Who won? No one can remember!

Watch out for the next one… Coming soon! 🙂

SCIPS Workshop

150 students from St. Christopher’s International Primary School Penang(SCIPS) visited POWIIS and participated in a series of workshops (Art, Music, Drama, PE and Dance) ran by our teachers. The Peter and the Wolf concert in the afternoon received a very good response from our POWIIS community as well as the SCIPS teachers and students.
