Mr Umpleby grew up in Bath, UK, and went on to read Biological and Social Anthropology at Durham University. He later completed an MSc at Oxford University and a Post Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) at Latrobe University, Melbourne. Nick is a qualified Mountain Leader (UK) and spent 3 years working as a mountain guide in East Africa and Ethiopia. In recent years he has worked in a variety of teaching and leadership roles in Australia, China and Tanzania and he has continued to organise and lead outdoor education programmes. As a specialist history and geography teacher Nick is particularly interested in population issues, economic development, and the management of natural disasters and he is looking forward to introducing adventurous fieldwork excursions and forging greater links with local industry as Curriculum Leader for Humanities.
